This fertilizer factory trust the specialist Vlint to reduce the dust and emission in the factory. Vlint also installed a special dust reduction system for loading the storage.
The history of this fertilizer factory goes back till 1906 tells Gerard Oudshoorn coordinator business office from ICL fertilizers Amsterdam.
“To get a dry fertilizer granulate we are mixing already years shiploads of phosphate with all kind of acid and minerals.”
The ships that moor at ICL fertilizer are loading a powder phosphate ore into a funnel on a belt conveyer. In the past the product was loaded into the storage from 9 meter high with a chute.
To make sure we did not have to much dust we only could load on 30% of the maximum capacity. Even with this loading capacity there was some dust escaping.
Product specials from Vlint advised to use the DSH Hopper. A DSH Hopper can be installed below a loading point like a belt conveyer, chain conveyer or Silo. The DSH Hoppers works based on gravity.
The DSH Hopper is installed onto a frame with springs and inside there is a Plug who closes the outlet from the Hopper. The hopper is filled until about 70% and will go down in the springs so the product can flow around the Plug to the outlet and make a strong column with product where dust does not get the chance to get out.
In practice there are situations where the DSH Hopper can reach 95% dust reduction, depending on the product.
We decided to do some test with the DSH Hopper in a smaller size to see the result on 30% loading capacity tells Gerard Oudshoorn. After some small changes and adjustments this was a great succes.
During the loading there is much less dust and emission outside the storage are past. After the test we decided to buy a couple of DSH Hoppers in a bigger size so we can load on a capacity from 60% without any dust problems. Another big advantage is the ships can be unloaded much faster and can leave much quicker. Our dust problems in the storages are history.
Ger den Heijer, product specialist from Vlint tells us the use of DSH is growing very fast in Europe.
For hygroscopic product we can deliver a PE hopper, for food a Stainless Steel and for other products like Corn and wheat but also sand and grit we use Corten Steel or Hardox DSH Hoppers.
The DSH Hopper is not only very good for dust reduction but also make a very strong and fixed column what make the loading more efficient. Other advantage are you do not need any electronics and in most cases no dedusting any more.
