Gericke GCM Mixer Permits Lot Tracing in a Continuous Process

Lot Tracing

Continuous mixers in the Gericke Continuous Mixer (GCM) line from process equipment manufacturer Gericke USA, Somerset, NJ, permit lot traceability in an automated, continuous processing environment. Featuring proprietary control technology, the GCM continuous mixers integrate real-time monitoring and automated data logging of the feeding and mixing processes with automated sample collection at predefined, time-stamped intervals to establish a positive material flow cutoff without distinct batch boundaries. For quality control, regulatory compliance, or in the event of a recall, a touch-screen HMI may be accessed to isolate, identify and trace target ingredient or raw material lots mixed in a given production period or shift.

Devised to aid in compliance with the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and promote consistent product quality, the continuous mixer controls automatically log flow rates, feed rates, mixing speed, retention time, temperature, and other parameters as needed for effective lot tracing with a high level of data integrity fully compliant to 21 CFR Part 11. The continuous mixers are proven to improve throughput and efficiency versus batch mixing for food, nutrition, chemical, and pharmaceutical products while eliminating the extra steps required in batch mixing that may cause contamination and increase the risk of a recall.

The Gericke GCM mixers automatically mix multiple liquid and dry materials at throughputs ranging from 1 liters/hour for pharmaceutical applications up to 150,000 liters/hour and/or 100 tons/hour of dry materials for food applications. It may be custom-designed to meet virtually any requirements. The mixers may be tested at the Gericke test laboratory.
