High-Precision Control for High-Speed Processes
A core requirement of modern filling and dosing systems is the ability to maintain consistent accuracy even at high throughputs. The VeloScale weighing control system from Greif-Velox meets this demand by utilizing a 24-bit A/D converter with a conversion rate of 110 Hz and a weight display resolution of up to 200,000d (10,000d legal-for-trade).
Multi-stage digital filters and adaptive control algorithms—available as either proportional or predictive mass flow-based options—ensure stable dosing accuracy even in the presence of external disturbances such as vibration. An automatic post-flow correction function further enhances precision and control.
Focus on Flexibility and Connectivity
A key feature of VeloScale is its adaptability to a wide range of machine concepts and filling materials. Through flexible parameter settings, the control system can be precisely tailored to specific process conditions—whether processing liquids or solids. Configuration is carried out via user-friendly menus, either locally or web-based through the integrated interface.
Designed for industrial use, VeloScale also offers a broad range of communication interfaces: from serial ports (RS-232, RS-422/485) to Profinet, and even an integrated web server for parameter input, data backup, firmware updates, and remote maintenance. The configurable weighing range assignment—including multi-range and multi-interval scales—further expands the system’s applicability across various plant types.
Control and User Convenience
VeloScale is operated via a locally mountable terminal featuring a graphical LCD display and intuitive plain-text navigation available in up to six languages. Practical features such as a three-stage dosing logic (coarse, medium, fine), automatic zero setting, and control weighing with tolerance evaluation are seamlessly integrated. Diagnostic functions, error logging, and real-time fill curve analysis support maintenance and process optimization. All fill data is securely documented and archived in a power-failure-safe system, including an alibi memory to ensure full traceability.
A standout advantage of VeloScale is its web-based, legal-for-trade display system: Unlike conventional systems where the panel is permanently connected to the weighing electronics and included in the calibration, VeloScale allows the use of any standard display panel to show weight data—whether in a control room or supervisory system. A separate LCD panel is not required. This not only reduces hardware costs but also eliminates common service-related limitations: Since the display device is not part of the calibration, replacing it does not require re-certification. As a result, overall system availability is significantly improved.
Certifications and Compliance
VeloScale by Greif-Velox is CE-compliant and meets key requirements of the European Directives 2014/31/EU (NAWI), 2014/32/EU (MID), and 2014/34/EU (ATEX). Certification is granted, among others, by Germany’s national metrology institute PTB. In addition, the system is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and holds a UL approval. This ensures suitability even in regulated and safety-critical applications.
