Heumann Environmental Company will host a live technical webinar titled “Industrial Cyclone Fundamentals pt.1 — The Basics: An Introduction to Industrial Cyclones for Vapor/Particulate Separation” on March 17, 2026 at 11:00 AM EDT.
The webinar is the first session in the Industrial Cyclone Fundamentals Series, a three-part program focused on helping engineers and plant operators better understand how industrial cyclone separators work and how to optimize their performance in process applications.
The session will be presented by Bill Heumann, CEO of Heumann Environmental and author of the engineering textbook Industrial Air Pollution Control Systems (McGraw-Hill, 1997).
“Cyclones appear simple on the surface, but their performance is governed by complex flow dynamics and particle behavior,” said Heumann. “Understanding those fundamentals allows us to design systems that deliver consistent, reliable separation performance.”
Industrial cyclones are widely used across process industries to separate particulate matter from gas streams. However, cyclone performance depends heavily on factors such as gas velocity, particle characteristics, cyclone geometry, and system configuration. Even small differences in these variables can significantly affect separation efficiency and overall system performance.
Despite their widespread use, cyclone systems are often applied without a full understanding of the internal fluid dynamics and particulate behavior that ultimately determine their effectiveness.
This webinar will provide engineers and plant operators with a practical overview of cyclone fundamentals and the key factors that influence system efficiency.
During the session, attendees will learn about:
- Definitions and types of industrial cyclones
- Cyclone flow patterns and component nomenclature
- Cyclone configurations, including series and parallel arrangements
- Gas and particulate properties that influence separation performance
- When high-efficiency cyclones are the best solution
- Fundamental cyclone geometry and design ratios
This event is designed for process engineers, plant managers, and operations teams responsible for dust collection and particulate control systems.
The webinar will conclude with a live question-and-answer session, giving participants the opportunity to ask Bill Heumann about cyclone design, application, and performance considerations.
