For plant engineers overseeing continuous weighing operations, the belt scale or weighbelt itself has never been the whole story. Even a mechanically flawless weighbridge can disappoint if the instrument translating load and speed signals into usable data is outdated or hard to integrate with the plant's control architecture. That integration layer is often where the real performance gains or losses occur.

Thayer Scale has addressed that gap with the WeighPoint® Integrator, a dual-processor, touchscreen-enabled solution designed for continuous operation in harsh environments.

Why the Integrator Matters as Much as the Scale

A belt scale system has two halves: load & speed-sensing hardware, and the integrator that digitizes those signals, applies the appropriate algorithm, and outputs a usable rate or totalized weight. As facilities push toward greater connectivity, plant managers increasingly want weigh data accessible across MODBUS/TCP, Ethernet/IP, or Profinet networks, and the ability to diagnose remotely without dispatching a technician to a sometimes inaccessible conveyor gallery. Meeting those expectations without sacrificing performance has become a real differentiator.

Inside the WeighPoint® integrator

WeighPoint® integrator is a field-mountable or panel-mountable standalone unit with an HMI that provides an easy-to-use interface to the company’s deep library of algorithms and functions. It is the most robust conveyor and belt-weighing integrating system on the market. One processor core drives the display and interface; a separate core handles real-time control — so a responsive touchscreen never competes with time-critical signal processing.

The unit centers on an 8-inch, 1024×768 (XGA) touchscreen for intuitive operation and optimal visibility in bright or challenging environments. It is rated for operation from -30 to +80 C storage, (-20 to 70 operating), reflecting that integrators are frequently field-mounted rather than housed in a climate-controlled room.

The instrument ships in four configurations for flexible installation planning and draws on Thayer Scale’s existing algorithm library — virtual weighspan calculation, scale location compensation, belt limbering/startup routines, and AutoZero/calibration history — so facilities upgrading from legacy S5200 or S52i platforms retain years of accumulated process knowledge.

WeighPoint is designed for use with Thayer Scale’s complete range of belt scales and feeders and will support Thayer’s unique LVDT load cell along with industry-standard strain gauges, making it a great upgrade option for older Thayer Instruments as well as legacy instruments on other manufacturers’ process weighing equipment.

With regard to communications, WeighPoint will support Ethernet/IP, MODBUS/TCP, and Profinet. A field-mounted scale module digitizes load and speed at the source and relays that data over CANBus, chosen for its high fidelity in electrically noisy settings, resulting in a distributed design that supports layout flexibility, measurement stability, and ease of use.

All this translates to less downtime: a technician can calibrate or diagnose issues remotely before a service call, an engineer can pull calibration history without paper logs, and a plant can standardize on one protocol without a custom gateway.
