Did you know that Static Electricity Can Become an Ignition Source?

When transferring highly flammable or combustible products into metal drums, cans, Ex IBCs etc. it is essential that hazardous process industries have suitable grounding in place and certified equipment to protect the safety of plant and personnel during the operation.

Static electricity is a hidden danger and is often underestimated, either due to a lack of awareness of the risks it poses or because of neglect and/or complacency. For day-to-day manufacturing processes, Newson Gale’s Bond-Rite® static grounding systems are easy to install and the perfect solution for grounding and continuous monitoring where there isn’t a need for interlocking capability.

Bond-Rite CLAMP

  • Easy to install and operate
  • Continuously monitors the connection to a verified earth at 10 Ohms or less.
  • Sharp tungsten carbide teeth bite through paint, rust and product deposits.
  • The high intensity flashing green LED indicators provides operators with a visual verification of a true earth prior to commencing operations.

Did you know that Static Electricity Can Become an Ignition Source?
  • Easy to install and operate
  • Continuously monitors the connection to a verified earth at 10 Ohms or less.
  • Sharp tungsten carbide teeth bite through paint, rust and product deposits.
  • Magnetic technology provides a strong and robust low resistance connection to any ferrous metal object like the body of a drum or an Ex IBC.

To understand what can go wrong when these types of product transfers are not protected, our latest case study describes an incident where an operator opened a valve to draw toluene into a metal bucket that was not grounded.  Unfortunately, electrostatic charge was able to accumulate on the bucket and resulted in a fire breaking out which very quickly got out of control.
