The history of the donut, or doughnut as it is also known, dates back to the 19th century. This sweet treat has its roots in many cultures, but it's most commonly associated with Dutch immigrants in America.

In the 1800s, Dutch settlers brought their recipe for “olykoek” or “oil cake” to New York (then New Amsterdam). These early versions were made from sweet dough that was fried in pork fat, and they were often filled with items like nuts or fruit to eliminate the uncooked center.

The traditional ring shape we associate with donuts today is credited to a young boy named Hanson Gregory. In 1847, while on a voyage, he was reportedly dissatisfied with the greasy, doughy centers of the fried cakes. To solve this, he punched a hole in the middle of the dough before frying it, creating the iconic donut shape.

Donuts became mainstream in America during World War I when women volunteers, known as “Doughnut Dollies,” served them to soldiers. This helped popularize the donut across the country.

The first doughnut machine was invented in 1920 by Adolph Levitt, a Russian-born immigrant in New York City. This led to the mass production of donuts and the establishment of donut chains like Krispy Kreme (founded in 1937) and Dunkin’ Donuts (founded in 1950).

Today, donuts are a beloved treat around the world, available in countless flavors and variations.

For well over a decade this pastry mix manufacturer has been relying on Vortex equipment. This pastry manufacturer makes approximately 10,000 bags of donut mix per day. Each bag makes approximately 1400 dozen donuts which equals 16,800 donuts. This manufacturer provides both GMO and Non-GMO pastry mix to countries across the globe.

16,800 donuts per bag x 10,000 bags per day = 168,000,000 donuts per day!!!

With that kind of output it is important for this manufacturer to rely on the most trustworthy manufacturing components.

Quality components coupled with routine maintenance cycles keep this manufacturer humming along and donut fans worldwide happy!
