Explosion-Proof Lump Breakers Earn ATEX Certification

Explosion-Proof Lump Breakers Earn ATEX Certification
1 Aug 2023  |
Somerset, NJ: Process equipment manufacturer Gericke USA, Somerset, NJ, has introduced an explosion-proof option on its line of Nibbler GNB lump breakers. Developed for safe operation in hazardous environments, the explosion-proof Nibbler GNB deagglomerator earned the ATEX certification for use in gas, dust, and hybrid zones 20, 21, and 22 for providing a high level of protection in areas where an explosive atmosphere is likely to occur or remain present continuously or for long periods of time during normal operation. Concern for worker safety due to combustible dust, electrostatic charge, and other risk factors in this size reduction process are eliminated.

Ideal for particle size reduction and conditioning of agglomerated powders, pellets, granules, and other bulk materials, the ATEX-certified Nibbler GNB features the company’s proprietary RotaSafeTM metal detection system that automatically detects metal to metal contact and, in the event of a detection, immediately shuts down power to the drive motor before sparks or contamination could occur. The lump breaker also includes ATEX-compliant shaft seals that monitor gas flow through the seal and alert operators of a potential failure before material could escape into the workplace.

The Nibbler line of lump breakers automatically cuts bulk materials down to as small as 1 mm in size using a proprietary, rotating paddle assembly without generating fine particles or adding heat history. The Nibbler GNB may be tested in the company’s New Jersey test laboratory to document performance.
