Telescopic chutes also known as loading bellows are essential for safely, efficiently, and sustainably handling dry bulk materials in powder and granular form. These systems ensure that bulk solids are transferred from silos, hoppers, or conveyors into open trucks, tankers, ships, or stockpiles without generating dust, causing spills, or wasting material. Therefore, they play a critical role in maintaining a clean work environment, protecting equipment, and meeting environmental standards. Choosing the right features and configuration of a telescopic chute during the design and procurement phase is crucial for ensuring problem-free, long-term operation. Understanding the key design aspects is essential for achieving this.

Main Telescopic Chute Models

Bulk material loading using loading chutes is generally divided into two categories based on the loading medium: Open Loading (open trucks, ships, and stockpiles) and Closed Loading (tanker trucks, barges, and ships with closed containers).

  1. Open Truck Loading Bellows
Used for dust-free loading of powdered and granular bulk solids into flatbed open trucks. Free-flowing dry bulk materials in powder or granule form are easily transferred from silos, hoppers, containers, or screw feeders to open trucks. The built-in flexible dust skirt prevents dust emissions outside the loading region, ensuring a cleaner and safer work environment. Their robust design and easy integration into existing systems make them a reliable choice for efficient bulk material handling.
  2. Tanker Loading Bellows
Developed for dust-free transfer of bulk material into bulk tanker trucks. Compatible with various feeding sources, they ensure efficient and clean transfer while protecting the environment. These bellows are designed to handle a wide range of powdered and granular materials, offering reliable performance across multiple industries such as cement, food, and chemicals. The system minimizes product loss and improves workplace safety by effectively containing dust particles during the loading process.
  3. Ship Loading Bellows
Ideal for loading dry bulk solids into ships, they provide dust-free operation during transfer from feeding equipment to dry bulk carrier ships. The integrated dust skirt eliminates environmental dust release throughout the loading process. Designed to handle high-capacity loading operations, ship loading bellows ensure fast, efficient, and safe material transfer. Their durable construction allows them to operate reliably in challenging marine conditions, making them a dependable solution for port and terminal applications.
  4. Stockpile Loading Bellows
Used for the discharge of bulk materials onto stockpiles, they minimize dust release while transferring powders and granules cleanly from storage or feeding systems. The built-in flexible dust skirt helps maintain cleanliness during stockpile formation. These bellows are ideal for outdoor or indoor stockpiling operations, ensuring environmental compliance and improved workplace safety. Their robust design supports continuous operation under demanding conditions, making them suitable for industries like mining, cement, and agriculture.

Types and Configurations of Telescopic Chutes

Loading chutes are available in a wide range of configurations depending on process requirements and the physical properties of the product.

  • Single Outer Bellow – Offers a cost-effective solution for loading granular materials with low dust content. A single bellow confines the loading zone; product flows downward through it, while dust is collected upward in the same region.
  • Double Bellows – Consists of one outer bellow that contains the dust collection zone and one inner bellow that guides the downward flow of material. This configuration ensures efficient separation of product and dust streams.
  • Single Outer Bellow with Internal Wear Cones – Mainly designed for abrasive materials, wear cones protect the bellow fabric by separating product flow from the bellow surface. Available in various materials, including Carbon Steel (general use), Hardox Steel (abrasive materials), and Stainless Steel (food-grade or corrosive products).
  • Double Bellows with Internal Wear Cones – Combines abrasion protection and high dust collection efficiency. Material flows downward through wear cones enclosed by an inner bellow, while dust is extracted upward through the outer region.
  • Heavy Duty Loading Bellows – We also offer solutions designed for high-capacity or high-temperature applications:
    • Single Loading Chute – Equipped with telescopic steel pipes controlled by a winch system, these chutes provide a wide diameter to ensure high throughput and environmental isolation.
    • Single Outer Bellow with Internal Loading Chute – An outer bellow provides closed containment to prevent dust leakage during material flow, while a dust collection system connected to a flexible dust skirt at the bottom captures any fugitive dust.
    • Loading Chute with Double Dust Collection Bellows – Ideal for high-dust materials, this system uses two bellows installed on the sides of the telescopic chute to handle greater dust volumes while working with large-scale jet filter systems to ensure complete environmental protection.

Custom Designed Telescopic Loading Chutes

In addition to standard models, we design telescopic loading chutes in custom-made versions to meet a wide range of application needs. Key factors such as bulk solid type, loading capacity, environment, and installation limitations are essential for their design.

ATEX-Certified Loading Chutes

Handling explosive or flammable materials requires special design to prevent overheating, dust leakage, static electricity, and sparks. Our ATEX-certified bellows use antistatic fabrics and explosion-proof equipment to ensure safe operation in hazardous environments.

Food Grade Loading Chutes

Food-grade bellows are made from stainless steel, silicone, and other approved materials to prevent contamination and bacterial growth. All components, including bellow fabrics and valves, comply with food safety standards.

Loading Chutes for Heavy Duty Operations

We offer loading chutes for heavy-duty operations, including Single Loading Chutes, Single Outer Bellows with Internal Loading Chutes, and Loading Chutes with Double Dust Collection Bellows (see above). In addition, for stable and trouble-free loading in heavy-duty operations, our bellows can be equipped with 3- or 4-cable configurations instead of the standard 2, increasing rigidity in adverse conditions such as strong winds.

Multiple Dust Collection Options

Dust collectors are essential components of bulk solid loading chutes, capturing fugitive dust during unloading and preventing emissions into the environment. Polimak offers several dust collector types tailored to specific application needs:

  • In-Line Dust Collector – Installed directly above the discharge point when enough vertical space is available, these systems use top-mounted filters and pulse jet cleaning to collect and return dust to the stockpile downside.
  • Offset Type Dust Collector – Mounted at an angle on the top flange, this compact design uses a vacuum fan and pulse jet filters for efficient dust capture. They are ideal for installations where vertical space is limited.
  • Separate Dust Collector – External dust collection units with their own fans, filters, and hoppers can be connected through the bellow’s outlet, offering flexibility for installations with limited space. This configuration allows independent operation and easy integration into existing systems.
  • Central Dust Collector – Ideal for facilities with multiple loading points, this configuration connects all loading chutes to a single central system, collecting dust through a shared outlet and storing it externally.

Telescopic Loading Chutes for High Temperature Applications

For high-temperature bulk solids such as fly ash, clinker, and foundry sand, loading chutes and components are made from heat-resistant materials, including motors and sensors. These bellows can handle materials up to 300°C safely and reliably.

Bulk Solid Feeding Equipment for Telescopic Loading Chutes

We also design and manufacture various feeding systems, ensuring controlled, efficient, and safe bulk material handling with loading chutes.

  • Butterfly Valves – Installed below silos or hoppers, they allow rapid flow control and help regulate the amount of product loaded.
  • Slidegate Valves – Enable flow regulation at silo or hopper outlets using pneumatic pistons or adjustable screw mechanisms.
  • Screw Conveyors – Transfer bulk solids to loading chutes at controlled rates and can elevate materials when vertical space is limited.
  • Belt Conveyors – Used to transport materials to loading chutes, especially in open-air or stockpile applications, using intermediate hoppers and optional dust collection.
  • Rotary Valves – Deliver bulk solids from silos or hoppers to loading chutes at a consistent, controlled rate.
  • Pneumatic Conveying Systems – Use air pressure or vacuum to transfer materials from distant storage units to loading chutes through pipelines.
  • Airslide Conveyors – Ideal for fine powders like cement, they use fluidized air and gravity to move material toward loading bellows installed at the outlet.
