Efficiently Drying of Extremely Wet Material

Efficiently Drying of Extremely Wet Material
18 Mar 2020  |

Adsorbent, such as activated carbon, can only have its full effect in chemical and medical processes as well as air purification technique, if it is perfect dry.

But that is exactly the difficulty. Since it is a sponge-like, open-pored product, it absorbs moisture not only on its surface, but also in the core.

The IRD – Infrared Rotary Drum – of KREYENBORG GmbH & Co. KG from Germany is especially made for drying. Thanks to the continuous rotation and the special working principle of infrared light, both outside and inside of the granules are dried.

In less than one hour, activated carbon can be brought from an input moisture of 40 to 60% to an output moisture of less than 15%. The costs for the fully automated system, including material absorption and emptying, are amortized within one year solely by the energy savings that can be achieved compared to conventional processes.
