DÜSSELDORF – At Interpack 2017, the GEA stand (hall 7a, B09/B31) will be “Packed with Inspiration” – a demonstration of engineering excellence for the packaging and processing industries.
In Düsseldorf, Germany, GEA will be exhibiting beyond the food package industry and displaying process equipment, solutions and services for the bakery, confectionary, dairy, beverage, and pharma sectors from May 4 to 10, 2017.
The Interpack stand will feature examples of GEA’s latest developments in powder sampling technology for the food, dairy, chemical and pharma industries including the GEA auger and vacuum samplers and the GEA Rotary Tube Selector Valve (RTSV) that, together, bring a new level of innovation and design to an integral component of a powder conveying system. They meet the ever-present need for improved hygiene, safety, flexibility and return on investment in powder processing.
Safe, hygienic, in-line powder testing
The GEA auger and vacuum samplers provide a reliable way to accurately take powder samples safely and hygienically while ensuring that the powder isn’t contaminated or damaged in the process.
The GEA auger sampler uses technology that delivers the most accurately controlled powder sample. It is extremely easy to setup, configure and control. The auger sampler is highly recommended for applications in which the sampling point is near the sample destination.
By contrast, the new GEA vacuum sampler is best used when the sample point is further away from the testing location. The new model complies with the latest relevant global requirements and provides either a two-pot, or six-pot diverting head for maximum flexibility.
Both models provide improved sampling accuracy compared with a traditional scoop sampler; are easy to operate, maintain and install; and allow samples to be taken in line with a programed schedule to meet operational requirements.
Smooth transporting of powder to multiple destinations
The new GEA Rotary Tube Selector Valve (RTSV) enables powder to be diverted from a single source to multiple destinations or to converge multiple lines into one. They are often used to replace a series of two-way valves, thereby simplifying the system, and reducing maintenance.
The latest RTSV from GEA benefits from an enhanced structural layout, with improved strength and rigidity, allowing for consistent and reliable operation when changing powder destinations. The RTSV is fully enclosed and has mechanical seals to eliminate leakage, has complete visibility of internal components allowing maintenance to be performed in place, and requires no motor control center. So it is less expensive to install and maintain, and has flexible mountings for easy, convenient positioning, by hand. Replacement parts are interchangeable between models thereby reducing inventory and maintenance costs.
Key applications for the RTSV include all operations where powder must be transported pneumatically at up to five bar pressure to multiple destinations. These include: dairy and food powders, the bakery industry, and chemical and pharmaceutical applications.
Bringing the technologies together at Interpack
On the stand at Interpack GEA sales and technical staff will demonstrate how the vacuum sampler PLC can be used to control the RTSV through a Human Machine Interface.
